Thoughts from Neaves Lane

Description

Right here goes: Neaves Lane is a quiet lane about a mile from the centre of the village. Its very popular with dog walkers, runners and bikers. I am considered a vulnerable person as I am within the three score years and ten age group. I initially thought this will not make a lot of difference, personally, as I am retired and widowed and in many ways that is how it is. But . . .Stay at Home means just that. The car sits stationery in the carport. No-one visits and I do not visit anyone.
Straight away the lock down means there are food shortages as everyone scrabbles for the essentials. Anything with the word ’antibacterial’ on it disappears from the shelves. Immediately, hand sanitizer, toilet rolls, and surface cleaners have gone. Shopping slots for ‘shopping to be delivered’ show unavailable and the game of sitting up into the night to try and catch a cancellation began.
Catching up on overdue outstanding tasks has its problems too. Most shops are physically closed to customers but if ‘government permitted’ will deliver. For many stores this cranked up a pre-virus service which for some was overwhelming and meant loooooooooong waits.
Within Stradbroke all services worked hard to look after the village where permitted. Radio Stradbroke which broadcast every day kept everyone informed. This was really helpful when it came to the Doctors who had to radically change their service.
To be continued . . . .
